GPS (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)

Developed by the U.S. department of defense for the military, the Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite-based, radio navigation system which give the exact position of any object no matter where it is, what time it is, or what the weather is like. A total number of 24 satellites orbit the Earth, monitoring continuously by their system. The satellites transmit signals which is detected by GPS and receives location of vehicles accurately with the help of latitude and longitude. A receiver needs signals from at least three GPS satellites to pinpoint a vehicle’s position.

A system based on GPS can only calculate its reference but cannot send the same to central control room in the absence of GSM link. In order to do this GSM-GPRS cellular networks are used with additional modems.

GSM (GLOBAL SYSTEM OF MOBILE)

GSM, Global System for Mobile, is a popular Mobile communication system provided by cellular service providers. GSM communication system can be intelligently used by electronic devices which can collect data and send it to a central place using SMS and GSM data.

GPRS ( GENERAL PACKET RADIO SERVICE)

General Packet Radio Service is new communication service introduced by GSM operators. These services are the part of same networks. These services allow secure and confirmed transfer of content like digital photos or other data to other GPRS capable system.

GIS (GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM)

Geographical Information System, GIS is software which consists of specially developed comprehensive and detailed maps of an areas with longitude and latitude information of each place, street, junctions and address.
